James “Kelly” Merritt, Jr, is the Vice President of
Engineering at Sithe Global Power, LLC in Houston, Texas, USA. He has been with the
company since the acquisition of Steag Power, LLC in 2004 and continues the development
of coal and gas fired power plants and performs due diligence on potential acquisitions.
His experience is instrumental in analysis of the operational health of acquisition
candidates.
Prior to working with Steag, Mr. Merritt was the Global Asset Operations
Manager for Enron for power and gas plants in North, South and Central
America, Caribbean and Nigeria. The operating and under development
assets reported to Mr. Merritt daily and under his supervision made
capacity, availability and efficiency improvements. These assets
are the final holdings of Enron as Prisma Energy. His work within Enron gained him
experience in both construction and operations of coal, gas turbine,
biomass, Rankin and reciprocating power plants and LNG storage and
gasification, propane, and industrial gas companies.
Mr. Merritt transferred from Portland General Electric to Enron
International after its acquisition. At PGE, he was a CCGT plant
operator and Chairman of the IBEW Local 125 until his promotion
to Training Manager. Mr. Merritt was hired by PGE after his honorable
discharge from the US Navy in 1991. While in the Service, he was
a Graduate of the US Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida
and nuclear machinist mate Engineering Watch Supervisor aboard the
submarine USS Alaska and USS Pogy during the Cold War and Desert Storm.
Mr. Merritt has been active in management committees, community
betterment, Habitats for Humanity, Stop Oregon litter and Vandalism,
and the American Diabetes Association.
