The Ma’arib project is located about 200 kilometers
east of Sanaa, Republic of Yemen. The plant will be capable of generating
more than 400 MW’s of electricity for the Yemen national grid
using four Alstom 13E2 gas turbines operating in simple cycle. Low
cost natural gas will be supplied from the nearby Ma’arib
gas field pursuant to a 25 year fuel supply agreement with the Ministry
of Oil and Mineral Resources. The project will have a coterminous
BOT power purchase agreement with Yemen’s Public Electricity
Corporation.
Sithe Global is jointly developing this project with Consolidated
Contractor’s Company (“CCC”). CCC began operating
in Yemen in 1952. The company, headquartered in Athens, Greece,
is a leading diversified construction and engineering company with
over 60,000 people employed in its world wide operations. An affiliate
of CCC won the Ma’arib project in an internationally competitive
bid process. Sithe Global was invited into the project as a 50/50
partner in 2004.
