Live Oaks Project

The Live Oaks project is a 600 MW (nominal net output) natural gas fuelled combined cycle generating station proposed for a "greenfield" site in southeast Georgia's Glynn County. Development of the facility was initiated by a local developer in early 2001. Sithe Global obtained rights to the project in 2006. The project is ideally located for interconnection to the Southern Transmission Co. grid, and by being located in Georgia avoids the significant congestion faced by out-of-state resources in addressing the state's rapidly growing capacity needs.

The project will utilize Siemens SGT6-5000F combustion gas turbines in a 2x1 configuration. The facility will incorporate state-of-the-art selective catalytic reduction technology to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides and an oxidation catalyst to control emissions of carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds. The facility will initially use groundwater to meet make-up water requirements, but has committed to re-use wastewater as it becomes available through the continuing growth in the area. Site development was designed to preserve wetland areas on the site to the greatest extent.

The project has received virtually all approvals required to begin construction. Limited site improvements have commenced. Sithe Global is pursuing long-term power sales opportunities for the project so that it may enter into full construction. It is projected that the facility will enter operation within about three years of completing such a long term power purchase commitment.
